Trip to Japan? ("we", "our", "the app") is a cultural etiquette quiz app designed to help visitors prepare for traveling to Japan. We believe in collecting the minimum data necessary to deliver a great experience. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can control it.

  The short version: No account required. No email or phone collected. No ads. No data sold. Your quiz progress stays on your device.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

Data from other apps on your device

3. Ask AI Feature & Artificial Intelligence

The Ask AI feature (available with Trip Pass) lets you ask free-text questions about Japanese culture. When you use this feature:

Your question is sent to our server (Supabase Edge Function) for processing.
Before sending, the app automatically removes any personal information it detects, including email addresses, phone numbers, URLs, and credit card numbers.
Your question is forwarded to Anthropic's Claude API to generate an answer. Anthropic processes this data under their privacy policy.
Questions and answers are stored in our database to display in your Inbox.
You must explicitly consent to AI processing before using this feature (AI Consent screen).

4. Analytics

We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous usage events (e.g., "quiz started", "module completed"). These events contain no personal identifiers — only action names and basic metadata such as module name or score. We use this data solely to understand how people use the app and to improve the experience.

5. Crash Reporting

We use Sentry to collect crash reports. When the app crashes, Sentry receives your device model, operating system version, and the technical details of the crash. No personal data is included.

6. Purchases

Trip Pass purchases are processed through Apple's App Store (or Google Play). We use RevenueCat to verify purchase receipts. We do not receive or store your payment details — all payment processing is handled by Apple or Google.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Your quiz progress and preferences are stored locally on your device. You can delete all local data at any time from Settings → "Delete all data". This permanently removes all progress, preferences, and Ask AI history from your device.

Server-side data (Ask AI questions stored in Supabase) is associated with an anonymous device identifier. If you wish to request deletion of server-side data, contact us at the email below.

8. Children's Privacy

Trip to Japan? is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). The app requires no account creation and collects no personal identifiers from any user.

10. International Users

The app's backend is hosted in the Tokyo region (ap-northeast-1). If you use the Ask AI feature, your questions are processed on servers in Japan. For users in the European Economic Area, this processing is based on your explicit consent (AI Consent screen).

11. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. Since we collect minimal data with no personal identifiers, most of these rights are automatically satisfied. For any requests, contact us below.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via an in-app notice. The effective date at the top of this page will always reflect the latest version.
